Abstract

This study looks at how reading comprehension and vocabulary skills influence the writing abilities of sixth-semester students at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. This study used a quantitative approach, applying Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis, which were carried out using SPSS. The results of the study indicate that there is a very weak and not important relationship between reading comprehension and writing skills, with a correlation of r = 0.079 and a significance level of 0.672, which is greater than 0.05. The connection between knowing vocabulary well and writing skill is quite weak and not important (r = 0.041; Sig. 0.829 > 0.05). At the same time, there is a strong connection between understanding what you read and knowing a lot of words (r = 0.875), but this does not have a big impact on writing skills. The analysis shows that reading comprehension and vocabulary skills only have a tiny effect on writing ability, making up just 1% (R Square = 0.010). The ANOVA test also indicates that there is no important effect (Sig. 0.871 is greater than 0.05). In some ways, neither of the two independent variables has a significant effect on writing skills. To sum up, the ability to understand what they read and knowing a lot of words does not have a big impact on the writing skills of sixth-semester students at UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. Other things like grammar, how ideas are arranged, motivation, creativity, and writing practice probably have a bigger impact on how well students write.
